Make it kid friendly!

Does your kid LOVE to garden? Play in the dirt? How about learn new things? What about eating their veggies? Well if you said YES to at least one of those things, you might be looking at your next project and HOPEFULLY add "YES!" to eating their veggies!

Kids tend to be MUCH more interested in eating their veggies, or at least TRYING them, if they had a HAND in growing them, themselves!

Take A Colorful Nature Walk


Macaroni Fun

Make your next walk a hunt for specific colors (try this any time of the year). This is an easy project that can be made very simple as your time/ materials/ patience demands.

You’ll need:
  • An empty egg carton
  • Paints and paintbrushes
Paint the inside of an egg carton different colors. Encourage the children to mix colors together or add black or white to create different hues.

Sunday Crepes


Perfect Breakfast Anytime!

I don't know how it started, but my tradition is to make crepes on Sunday. The recipe below is very forgiving-- you can leave stuff out or change ingredients, and it still works. 


Ingredients:
  • 1-1/2 cups whole milk (I rarely have whole milk and have used almond milk, skim milk, and combinations of whatever is in the house)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 Tablespoons sugar (I've used Stevia, only used 2 Tablespoons, again...forgiving)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Scant 5 Tablespoons unsalted butter, melted. 
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ...

The reservation deadline for an incredible overnight experience on The Dove is May 25th!  The event includes an overnight stay on The Dove in Historic St. Mary's City on June 27 - June 28 (dusk to dawn).  Space is limited!

Who: Adults and kids ages 9 and older.

Saturday, June 1 - Carnival and Yard Sale at KCA

The King's Christian Academy springtime Carnival and Yard Sale is sure to be a great family fun day, and is open to the public!  From 8AM to Noon, shoppers of all ages will delight in finding attic treasures, crafts, garage slae items, vendors and multi-family sales.  The Carnival begins at 11AM and includes moon bounces, rock climbing walls,  the Extreme Air Jumper, Carnival games, prizes, food and ice cream.  More than 30 attractions and games to enjoy!  Rain date is June 15.   6/1

Saturday, June 1 - Night Hike and Navigation

Come and take a walk to Chancellor's Point and return by starlight. Learn how the sailors navigated using the stars with expert, Captain Will Gates. View the planets through a high-powered telescope. 6/1

Just how did the seeds planted in April in Farthings Garden grow?  Re-visit and see the progress. This educational series is designed for pre-school children. Activities include story, crafts, song and outdoor exploration. 6/5

Friday, June 7 - Leonardtown's First Fridays

Get Hooked on First Friday in Leonardtown this month. It's always family friendly. June's event helps to kick off the Lion's Club CrabFest!  You'll find St. Mary's Macaroni Kid and our fun activity tent on the Square and LIVE music from The Pirhanas!   Meet PINCH from the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs and check out a crab picking demo at Kevin's Korner Cafe.  Hands on demos, discounts, receptions and entertainment all around town.  Make and take craft at Yellow Door Art Studios!  Experience Art in the making at the Leonardtown Art Center.  Special menus at local restaurants.  The Suttler Post Farm Clydesdales will be on the square with carriage rides (fee based).   6/7
